The 2014 Sustainable Schools Summit is approaching fast! Our theme this year is “Cultivating Partnerships for Success.” Our planning team includes partners from across Rhode Island dedicated to creating healthy, creative, efficient and environmentally sustainable schools. Schools that will lead the way to a thriving society, one in which children’s lives, health, and education are top priority and our sustainable relationship with the earth’s natural systems is paramount.

Help Shape the Summit!
We invite proposals for workshops and presentations addressing a wide variety of issues and approaches to creating sustainable schools. We aim to build bridges for our varied stakeholders and members of schools communities, cultivating strong partnerships for success. Our ares of focus for this summit include:

SCHOOL AS A TEACHING TOOL – How can the architecture, infrastructure and physical environment of the school be used as a teaching tool for students and others? What about the social systems, food systems,
and economics of a school?

YOUTH LEADERSHIP AND EMPOWERMENT – This summit will include a youth track, for students themselves to come together, exchange stories and ideas, and gather resources and tips for their efforts as environmental leaders in their schools.

INTEGRATING SUSTAINABILITY INTO SCHOOL CURRICULA AND CULTURE – Achieving environmental literacy, sustainability and STEM/STEAM, and cultivating creative sustainability awareness throughout the school ecosystem.

FACILITIES, INFRASTRUCTURE AND HEALTH – Addressing the barriers to and the potential for creating safe, efficient, sustainable schools that are healthy for all Rhode Island students and school workers. Information, networking opportunities and tools for facilities managers, parents, school workers, community members and others who wish to advance equity and build partnerships for a just and sustainable school system.
